Networking Cables

There are different types of networking cables we use in our daily life. These networking cables find their places in our homes, offices, schools etc. Vacker Africa is a very well-known supplier of Electrical Equipment such as networking cables especially in the African region. Our products can be found in different countries such as Kenya, Djibouti, Tanzania, Chad, Angola, Libya, Algeria, Niger, Congo, South Africa, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Morocco, Nigeria, Ghana, Congo-Pacific, Zimbabwe, etc.

Introduction

The cables that are used to connect different kinds of electrical devices are known as networking cables. It is generally used to connect computers to connect with devices such as printer, scanner, etc. On the basis of the network’s size, topology and protocol these networking cables are categorized in different types such as coaxial cable, twisted pair cable, etc. Generally, large computer networks use networking cables to transfer signals from one point to another.

Types of Networking Cables

1. Twisted Pair

Twisted pairing in the wires is done when different disturbances occur in the networking because of the interference of radio frequency created from external sources. This reduces the disturbance of radio frequency and the network can transfer signals smoothly from one point to another smoothly. This type of cable is useful in local area network commonly known as Ethernet. These twisted pair also can be found in shielded and unshielded types. Ethernet crossover cable helps in connecting two computers or devices without the help of hub or router. It is used to create a connection among same type of devices such as two computers, two switches etc.

2. Fiber Optical Cable

Optical fibers are capable of carrying information and data in the form of light from one point to another. Group of optical fibers working together is known as fiber optical cable. A protective layer is coated around these optical fibers to protect it from wear and tear. An insulating jacket which may be made of Teflon or PVC is also applied to reduce outer interference. Single mode optical fibers are capable of transferring data and information over a long distance in a very short time period whereas multimode optical fibers are used to transfer data and information over a short distance. These optical fiber networks are used in telecommunication or internet service.

3. Coaxial Cable

In this type of cable the electromagnetic wave is confined in the coaxial lines. These waves are managed between the shield and the conductor. These types of cables can transfer energy from one place to another. The 20th century saw the use of coaxial cables used for the telephone connection over a long distance. These cables are very flexible and can be twisted and bent according to the requirement. These cables are useful in transmission in television signals.

4. Patch Cable

These cables are used for signal routing between two electronic or optical units. A patch cable connects different types of electronic devices for example a switch to a computer or a switch to a router. These patch cables are flexible and easier to connect.

5. Power Lines

These types of cables are used to transfer electric energy from one place to another. They may be combination of one or more than one types of conductors. Newer types of power line cables are being used to connect home computers and other devices. These cables are easier for the wiring purpose hence they are preferred over other coaxial cable or other phone cables.
